PRYT
The yoga therapy school I am attending is called Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, based in Bristol, VT. Having completed Levels I & II in October 2008 in San Diego, California and found myself drawn to the work, I committed to completing Level III Practitioner training. The experience has been rewarding, personally and professionally.
I have completed the two onsite training weeks in Bristol, VT. The school, my host family, and the town all seemed to provide a safe cradle for the incubating students. Nestled between two mountains, Bristol is breathtakingly beautiful, and yet somehow quaint and serene at the same time. The town has a small but vibrant main street, that seems to embrace the visiting students with open arms.
Some highlights of the curriculum include applied anatomy for Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, working with first-time clients, teaching and practice of advanced dialogue techniques: Two-part Dialogue and Open-Ended Journey Dialogue, Centering and Integration, and Professional ethics, boundaries, and guidelines for establishing a PRYT practice.
The distance learning program is designed to give students the professional experience, knowledge, understanding, and confidence needed to establish a career. Students have a chance to observe themselves in action and receive detailed supervision. This part of the program includes practice sessions and detailed reports, intensive workshops, reading of professional literature relating to yoga and psychotherapy, professional business practices, and weekly mentor calls.
The teachers, mentors, and staff at Phoenix Rising are masters at providing a fun, safe, structured learning environment. They fully encourage experiential and intellectual pursuits by students in way that makes the program custom fit to each person who walks into the facility. They are warm and friendly, and quietly hold space for each student to “get it”. The packet work is designed to foster real integration of the work into one’s own life, so that Practitioners can then BE THAT which they wish to teach.
